Philosophic Viewpoints
Philosophy is a way of thinking that captures a person’s essence. Philosophy explores
how a person thinks and the meaning of their own beliefs. Two main philosophical thoughts are
analytical and continental. According to Butts and Rich (2022), analytical philosophy involves,
realistic, scientific examination of data and the nature of truths. Continental philosophy focuses
on the history of the past and present with focus on the experience of truth. When pertaining to
the POI topic discussed in this paper, analytical philosophy is the preferred philosophical
viewpoint.
Analytical philosophy is based on a cause-and-effect type of platform. In order to
understand SCD we must understand the cause of the disease as well as the effects. To treat SCD
we must know the etiology, pathophysiology, and clinical manifestations of the disease which is
