Answer for NUR 606 Week 5 Discussion 1 Question-Based Discussion—Team A (Skin Disorders)
Thank you for explaining these skin conditions and also providing pictures to visualize the differences in skin conditions. I will be going into women’s health, and I was researching skin conditions that are common amongst pregnant women. The American College of Gynecology (ACOG) describe that many women can develop multiple skin changes including melasma. Melasma is also known as the “mask of pregnancy” and causes brown/grey patches on the face around the cheeks, nose and forehead (ACOG, 2021). Kwon et al. (2018) explains the physiology behind melasma and that it is caused from an increased amount of melanin in the epidermal layers, the basement membrane is disrupted and thin allowing migration of melanocytes and melanin into the dermis causing melasma.
