Answer for NRS 460 Share two examples of healthy, self-care behaviors you currently practice that promote wellness and resiliency in your nursing role Topic 5 DQ 2

Nurses must prioritize their personal health and well-being for them to provide high-quality, safe, and efficient care. One of the healthy, self-care behaviors that I currently practice to promote wellness and resiliency in my nursing role is being physically active. Nurses often encounter stressors in their workplace that predispose them to adverse physical and psychosocial outcomes. However, engaging in active physical activities such as exercising, swimming, taking nature walks, and jogging helps alleviate the effect of workplace stressors (Duva et al., 2022). I usually exercise at least 30 minutes daily to keep me physically active. I also swim during the weekends and go for nature walks once weekly with my family. The other strategy that I use to remain healthy is seeking emotional support from my friends and family whenever I feel stressed. I share my experiences with my close family members and friends and get the support I need in terms of how I can overcome them.

Nurses can benefit from community and professional resources that help them build their resilience and promote their wellness. One of the community resources for nurses is counseling services in their organizations. Hospitals have counseling services for their staff. Nurses can access their social, emotional, and psychological support from counseling services on issues affecting their performance such as burnout and compassionate fatigue. Communities also have wellness centers and programs that can benefit nurses. The wellness centers and programs provide access to fitness, recreational, wellness, and educational workshops on issues that affect physical, psychosocial, and emotional health (Duva et al., 2022). For example, nurses can be educated on mind-body practices that can help them overcome occupational stressors.

The Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) and the American Nurses Association (ANA) programs are some of the professional organizations that offer resources for wellness and resiliency for nurses. ANA provides online resources such as webinars on topics that focus on nurses’ physical, psychosocial, and emotional health. Similarly, EAPs incorporate services such as counseling, which help employees address challenges that might be affecting their performance (healthynursehealthnation.org, 2021). According to the Christian Worldview, our physical health affects spiritual health. Therefore, we should embrace a healthy lifestyle for us to achieve our desired spiritual health.
