Re: Topic 7 DQ 2

Improvements in health literacy directly correlate with disease prevention and ultimately positive outcomes. The National Assessment of Adult Literacy data from 2003 identified that one third of United States Adults had a limited health literacy. The impact of low literacy rates often occurs in socioeconomically disadvantaged individuals or groups such as those living in poverty, older adults, and those who did not complete high school. According to Liu, et.al., (2020) Individuals with a lower literacy rate have an increased risk of poor outcomes associates with decreased knowledge towards health, increased rate of chronic illness, poor disease markers, and inadequate use of preventive care. A doctoral-prepared nurse actively engages with the public health to prioritize interventions that improve health literacy and health promotion. A recent influential process to health literacy and health promotion is digital technologies. Digital technologies allow patients to interact with health services through smart phone applications, self-knowledge and self-measurement variables, and the use of big data. Digital technologies are cat4gorized based on interventions for clients, interventions for healthcare providers, interventions for health systems or resource management, and interventions for data services. All these interventions have an impact on health equity by improving the accessibility to media sources (Azzopardi & Sorenson, 2019). DNP nurses promote alternative measures of health promotion through changes in hospital policies, protocols and processes. This encompasses developments in public health and organizational departments that serve the community. A DNP nurse that serves as a transformation leader empowers, supports, and mentors frontline leaders such as supervisors and charge nurse to utilize and research evidence-based interventions that advocate for health literacy and improve the patient experience.  Staff nurses along with an individual’s family support has demonstrated improvements in health literacy and prevention in comorbidities.
